Students’ Visions Featured on FOX News

fox9breckOn Tuesday, January 20th, media outlets nationwide were focusing solely on the inauguration of President Barack Obama. Most of this coverage tracked President Obama’s every move that morning, but here in Minnesota, our very own FOX 9 News (KMSP-TV) covered the inauguration in TEL.A.VISION terms, with four live segments from the Breck School in Golden Valley, Minn.

The segments highlight a classroom of Breck 8th graders who, as part of their History curriculum, were assigned to create a TEL.A.VISION video communicating their “Vision for America.” The project corresponded with the inauguration, so the students highlighted things they felt were important for Obama to focus on during his Presidency – world peace, the environment and an overall theme of kindness dominated the students’ videos.

FOX reporter M.A. Rosko captures these themes during her interviews with three Breck students who participated in the TEL.A.VISION “Vision for America” curriculum. M.A. also speaks with Breck History teacher Sarah Flotten, who saw real value in connecting a program like TEL.A.VISION, which lets students express their voices and hopes for the future, with a current event such as the inauguration.

The live FOX segment is included below. All of us at TEL.A.VISION are incredibly proud of these Breck students for their “Vision for America” videos, which demonstrate genuine care for America’s future. Makes it easy to be hopeful with youth like this poised to lead our world someday.

TEL.A.VISION SHARES VISION WITH PRESIDENT-ELECT OBAMA

presobamaThe Search Institute HCHY Conference followed on the footsteps of the history-making  U.S. National election which named Barack Obama as the U.S. President Elect.  What some may not have known is that Barack Obama and TEL.A.VISION share the same goal, defining a new Vision for America.

One of the key elements for which TEL.A.VISION was created in 2006, was to give our youth a means or channel with which to share their visions for America with whomever the newly-elected president would be.  As the Search Institute began, news of Mr. Obama’s new website spread – and within this website was a call to action.  Our President-Elect Obama was asking any and all people to share with him our visions for America.

The TEL.A.VISION website, has a category under our “Watch” tab specifically allocated to “Visions for America.”  The Search Conference leaders partnered with TEL.A.VISION and asked the conference attendees to post their visions for America at the TEL.A.VISION conference room.  Every statement that was shared was compiled into one of four “Vision for America” videos.

To see all four of the Search Conference “Vision for America” TEL.A.VISION’s go to our website here.  You can also make your own Vision for America TEL.A.VISION and send it to President-Elect Obama via his website at Change.gov on this page.  Simply select “Share Your Vision” at the bottom of the site and upload your TEL.A.VISION.  Share your vision . . . Change the world!!

TEL.A.VISION and Vision for America

I recently stopped by Breck School in Golden Valley, MN with Deb Malin, a parent and part of the TEL.A.VISION team, to talk to the grade school teachers about TEL.A.VISION and Vision for America.

On his new web site, Change.gov President-elect Obama has requested that people send him their Visions For America. The Breck teachers loved the idea of having their students create and send in their Visions For America using TEL.A.VISION, and having them played on inauguration day, January 20th.

Below is an example of a Vision For America. What a cool idea!
